Vitamin D

It is believed that 75-90% of the population are vitamin D deficient. However, this figure is not surprising when approximately 7 months of the year is spent mainly indoors due to cold weather and busy lifestyles. Unfortunately Vitamin D deficiency can have detrimental effects on our immunity, mood and brain function, skeletal structure including bone pains (especially in the shins and chest), blood pressure, ability to avoid certain cancers, as well as rickets in children and osteoporosis in adults.

According to Dr Chatterjee in the UK 'infants and children should be on 400-600IU Vitamin D3 per day at the very least to prevent deficiency', whilst other differing guidelines can be found in the references.
